A genuine rhodolite garnet sits at the quill end of this feather pendant, ringed by a twisted rope of brass. Below the stone, 59 mm of .925 sterling silver is textured barb by barb on both faces. Three splits cut right through the vane where the barbs separate, as they do on a real feather. The silver is left bright, with no blackened grooves, so the detail shows through light and shadow alone.
Wear This If
If you live in denim and work shirts — Bright silver and a warm brass rope stand out against indigo, chambray or a plain gray tee. At 14 mm wide, the feather stays slim enough to sit inside an open collar without crowding it.
If you layer necklaces — The bail takes a chain up to 3 mm wide, so a fine cable or box chain threads through, while a heavy curb will not. Hang the feather on the longest chain of the stack. Its 59 mm length then falls clear below the shorter strands.
If you're shopping for a January birthday — Garnet is the January birthstone, and rhodolite is its purplish-red, raspberry-toned variety. Here it is a 6 × 4 mm oval in a silver bezel, set where the quill meets the vane.
The Honest Take
A flat feather on a chain turns as you move, so the back will face out now and then. It doesn't matter much on this one. The reverse is detailed too, with the same barbs and the same central shaft running its full length. Behind the garnet, the setting is left open.
The open back changes how the stone looks. In normal room light the garnet reads as a deep raspberry red. Hold the pendant up to a window and light passes straight through it, and the color jumps toward a bright pink.
The whole piece weighs 7.2 grams and is about 3 mm thick. At roughly the length of a house key, it looks substantial on the chest but hangs light.
Because the grooves start bright, they will darken by themselves as the silver tarnishes. Over months, that slowly builds the kind of contrast an oxidized piece ships with. The brass rope ages as well, toward a deeper honey tone. If you'd rather keep everything bright, rub the high points with a polishing cloth now and then. We include one with every jewelry order.
The Details That Matter
Before You Buy
Q: Which chains will thread through the bail of this feather pendant?
Any chain up to 3 mm wide fits through the bail. That covers most fine cable, box and rope chains, but not a thick curb chain. The pendant ships without a chain, so pick one in that width. The clasp end has to pass through the bail too, so check that it is no wider than 3 mm either.
Q: What kind of garnet is set in the feather?
It is a genuine rhodolite garnet, the purplish-red to raspberry variety of the garnet family. The stone is oval cut and measures 6 × 4 mm. It sits in a silver bezel at the top of the feather, and the setting is open behind it, so light can pass through the stone and brighten its color.
Q: Is the gold-colored rope around the stone real gold?
No. The twisted rope ring is brass, a copper and zinc alloy with a natural gold tone. The feather, the bail and the bezel holding the garnet are .925 sterling silver. Over months of wear the brass deepens toward a warmer honey shade, and a polishing cloth brings back its brighter yellow.
Q: Is the back of the feather pendant finished?
Yes. The reverse carries the same barbs and central shaft as the front, and the three splits in the vane go right through the silver. There is an open window behind the garnet. So when the 59 mm feather turns over on its chain, the back still looks like a feather.
